Small Town Universe Collaboration
With many thanks to our sponsors – the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Science, Technology and Research (STaR) Division, and the West Virginia Humanities Council – we are thrilled to partner with Rescued Media to host screenings in West Virginia/Appalachia of their award winning newest film Small Town Universe!
From Rescued Media: Small Town Universe paints an intimate and captivating portrait of life in Green Bank, West Virginia, home to the world’s most sensitive radio telescope and the only U.S. town where Wi-Fi and cell phones are banned. In this uniquely radio-quiet community, scientists use the telescope to search for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence and advance the field of radio astronomy while residents navigate through pivotal moments of existence, forming deep connections with the universe, science, and one another.

Small Town Universe premiered at the 2024 Cleveland International Film Festival and won the CIFF Global Health Award. The film screened at the Mimi Theater and also at the Great Lakes Science Center directly after the 2024 solar eclipse. It continues to screen and win awards at Film Festivals around the country.
We are excited to announce the following locations and dates for our new program – “Stories with STEAM The Appalachian Circuit featuring Small Town Universe”!
